Netty, great to "see" you around again! I can't believe it's time for K for some of these guys...being born was just such a blip ago, and now they're all such giants!

Caddy and Kessie could not be more dissimilar. It's almost comical how different they are. Caddy is all spirit and joy...she's definitely spirited, loves trouble...but makes up for it with the biggest smile and the easiest laugh. I hardly ever hear her fuss, let alone cry! Kes was much more serious, and still is. They're like yin and yang. But they both like the same toys, so it works out nicely :) They can play together...you know, except when they're fighting over the exact same item!

NJF: thanks! Seth is soooooo handsome! I could only see a few pic though, can you add me as a friend :)

It's a public school in the district I teach in. I teach mostly pre-calculus. But I've taught all levels of HS math. Her school is about 15 min. From our house/my work (I live about 3 min. from my work)

How about you. What do you do? I know your hours are tough. I don't know how you do it, but your amazing!

You know I hear stories of children in the US of rotting teeth...like severe rotting until they can funded to have their teeth fixed...and it really ticks me off that your government does nothing about it! I mean, they're kids!! Give the kids a a chance!

The people of America need to step up and fight for this! Let kids get health care when it is needed! No if ands or buts! For crying out loud..they're only children!

I depends on works for the child. Some need more or less. And it also depends on the families routine.

However I like LO to sleep ATLEAST 10 hours. If she goes to bed at 9pm, she can function on an early morning schedule.

With Miri, I am worried about similar things. Her focus, she is high energy, but she is also very emotional. Once she gets there, it can get ugly pretty quickly. Last year in pre-k, she got so upset one day that she ran around the class screaming crying and tearing down all the class papers the teacher had posted up. They had to call us to come and pick her up :(

Her behavior has gotten better now that she is a little older, I think because we can talk to her about it and she understands. We basically use Supernanny's tactics for dealing with unruly kids! I try to stay calm, but sometimes it gets the best of me. Especially when both Miri and Mila are having meltdowns at the time :( But there is def more good days then bad, and my girls are the best thing to ever happen to me!!!

What we love about the school is
1) the teachers
2) the diversity
3) parent involvement/family activities (they have "family movie night" once a month, and are having a "back to school ice cream social" on Monday night.
4) the classified staff (Being a teacher, I think the staff says a lot about a school. If they are grumpy and don't seem to like where they work, it's not good. If they seem happy and easy going, you know that EVERYONE is respected at that school)
5. Location
6. The kids. Miri's pre-k was on the same campus, and we noticed the
elementary kids always seemed happy, and helpful to the pre-k kids.

We did go school shopping for some clothes and shoes she needed. She grows so fast! She wears a 6-8 in girls clothes now, eek! We go to kohls for her clothes because they have AMAZING sales and cute kids clothes. We got most of her stuff for 70% - 80% off. So like, $3-$5 per item :)

Mila just gets Miri's hand me downs, but I am starting to feel bad as she gets older that she never gets new stuff, so I bought her a couple of items also. They both have backpacks that are in perfectly good shape, so no new packs. I spoke with the teacher (actually emailed her, she's really good about getting back to us via email), and they don't really need any school supplies at this age. The school provides all they need. But Miri and I put together a really cute first day of school gift for her teacher and Miri is really excited to give it to her!

No, no house yet. We're just looking right now. We are going to need a bigger place in the near future, and are looking for a car that seats at least 7 at the same time. That's been a little stressful as well. But, I know that the Lord has our back, so whatever situation we end up in, He will make it work out for us :)

Thank you for letting me share a little of my life!

Poom- That is a GREAT schedule!!!

NJF- Good luck!!! I am sure he will do great. Is it a test to see if he is ready to be for K? Like holding a pencil and stuff? It's crazy how cities so close together do things so different. Let us know what they say.

Netty- HEY LADY!!! Miri is going too! Our babies how is this happening? That is cool that you are going to help her transition. I have a spirited one as well and there are a lot of things I am worried about. His throwing up, his focus, his energy, his refusal to eat most of the time, etc. Plus he never liked going to preschool the one year he went. Netty what are you most worried about as far as her "spiritedness" and K?

Congrats on getting her in an awesome district. What are some things you like about the school? Have you meet the teacher? Did you go school shopping yet? If Sincere didn't get into the G&T K we would have had to send him to a not so great option. So we were relieved to say the least. Sincere is bright but he goes off on tangents so we didn't think he would do well. He showed us. :)

Did you guys get a new house?

Wow! Hello ladies :) I am also alive and had fun "back reading" the old posts! Some hot topics ;)

Yes, the "K" word! I too am struggling with it. Miri starts on Wednesday, YIKES! I am totally NOT ready, and Miri is SOOOO ready. She talks about it all the time, "When am I going to Kindergarten, mom???". She had an entire conversation about Kinder with our real estate agent while DH, Mila and I were looking at a house, LOL! The only tough thing is that she keeps insisting on her pre-school teacher. I have tried explaining to her that now that she's in Kinder, Mrs. Marina won't be her teacher anymore. She is a preschool teacher and will be Mila's teacher now. But Miri just insists, "No, I want my Miss Marina to teach me Kindergarten!". Uggggg...

I have been so nervous about it (because Miri hasn't changed much since you last heard about her, she's still pretty "spirited), that I decided to work part-time next year so that I can go with her to class 2 days a week. I'm really excited to be a "class helper", but I hope it doesn't backfire on me with Miri. I just really want to be there for her. Last year, when Miri and DH came home and were talking about her new best friend "Sophia", I started crying, "She has a BEST FRIEND!". I feel like I missed all of her Preschool years because I'm a teacher also. We're in the same district with the same schedule :(

Sorry, ladies. Thanks for letting me vent. I am just overwhelmed with Miri starting K and Mila starting Pre-K! I won't even get into feeling guilty for not choosing to go to Mila's class with her. She's just so much more easy going than Miri. I think I will do a once a month thing for Mila's class though.

NICOLE: OMGosh! I don't even know what to say. That's ridiculous! I don't think I could handle the stress. Especially because Miri woulnd't test high. She is very bright and capable, but will only do things on HER terms. If you try to test her, she will fold up her arms. If you pretend you don't care and don't look, she will count to 100 and make 3 letter words with her magnet letters! I wonder if they have the same "perks" for teachers in NY that they have in our District. Miri is going to a REALLy good school that most parents in our area try to get into, but most can't because it is such an impacted school. Teachers in our district are able to send our kids to any school in the district, so Miri was granted a "transfer" from the low performing school she was supposed to go to. Again, your amazing Nicole! And so is Sincere, a 99%! Are you kidding me??? Have you been paying for private tutoring on the side ;)

Ummmm...yeah! This is what happens when you haven't been around in a LONG time! I not only wrote a super long post, but I also high-jacked the thread!!!

So, to answer the bedtime question. Miri goes to bed between 7:30-8:00 during the school year, and between 8:00-9:00 during the summer. She doesn't take naps anymore (since like 2.5 years old, grrrr), so an early bedtime is must! She doesn't like going to bed though, and we struggle with it the most during the summer.

NJF: WOW!Seth puts himself to sleep? UH-MAZING!

MICK: Now that Cadence is a little older, what differences and similarities do you see between her and Kestrel? I always find it so interesting to see the similarities and differences between Miri and Mila as they grow. It's super cute to hear their EXACT SAME laugh!

Okay, I think I've said enough... MISS YOU LADIES :)

Nicole: seth loves to sleep thats what lol. Except he doesnt usually nap in the day which is fine. I rather he just goes to bed early.

As far as the school I checked out the one I was telling u guys about but couldnt reach anyone: I don't think they offer extended care which I need. So Im gonna have to go with 2nd option another school not too far from here and they offer extended care. He has to be tested though, so Im taking him for testing this saturday. Wish us luck!

NJF- He just crawls in bed and goes to sleep? He naps on the bus? Seth is AWESOME!!! Did you get him in the K program you were going to try for?

Comeundone- 8:30 is a great time to aim for. Does she fight going to bed? Or is okay with going once it gets late?

I wish we could get in a decent nighttime schedule. I shoot for 8:30, but I can't even remember the last time Tessa was in bed before 9. Things usually get so hectic in the evenings with everyone that all of asudden it's 8:00 and Tessa hasn't had a bath yet. We really gotta try harder in the next couple weeks to get a consistant time, we'll probably shoot for 8:30.

Ok we have hectic schedules and hrs. Last yr for school Seth had to leave with me at 6:40 am drop off at grandma house n she took him to school, she would pick him up at 6 or 6:30 pm (different days fluctuate) and I would get him from her house at 7:15-7:30. which gives me half hr to get home bathe (most times he had dinner there) and "sometimes" a story or just listen to music and he was asleep by 8. On wed I was home at 5:30 so when he got home by around 6:30 he was sleeping already so I wouldnt see him til the morning.

For the summer he leaves with me at 6:40 n comes back with me at 7:15 he naps on the camp bus for the 45 min ride in the evenings. And when we get home its "dinner, bath, bed" in that order. sometimes he is watching the clock. and reads "7:57, 7:58, 7:59, 8:00" " ok mom its bedtime and just crawls in bed and falls asleep. he is so exhausted from his schedule that he doesnt even want to do anything on a weekend.
This school yr I want to change that and have a sitter for him so he doesnt do before and/or after care. And he doesnt have to wake up super early or go to bed super early/ (sigh) I really hate my schedule.

I am going to have to adjust when I go to bed because waits for me and I have to stay up doing work on the computer so we fight. Maybe I can do more work in the day with him at school so I can adjust my bedtime and then he will fall asleep earlier.

We also have the nap problem. I am going to try to get him home by 3 and in bed for a nap. Hopefully we will be up at 4. He has to have a nap but that also means anything before lets say 9pm won't work. We will see.

Marlysmama- 8 is AMAZING!!! Are you excited about the new school year?

Before my kid is in bed. Kes is supposed to go to bed at the same time every night. It doesn't actually happen.

Do you guys have different bedtimes for school days versus days they don't go to school? Or do they go to bed the same time every night whether school is in session or not? What do you think an ideal time for a K kid to go to bed on a school night?
