We really want to tell both families at the same time so we are waiting until my parents come into town (I will be 13.5 weeks by then!!).
We are going to invite the siblings and parents over for brunch at our place. By then, we will have had our Dr. appt so we will have pictures from the U/S. We are going to put these in a frame and then hand these to the grandma's to open up.
It should be great if I can hide my growing belly from them until that time :)
I love the idea of the onesies "grandma" and "grandpa" - maybe we'll add that as well :)
Thanks for the ideas!

We are sharing the news with my parents this weekend and with by DH's folk the following weeked.
My parents are coming up to visit our new house for the first time, and they are bringing the video camera to video the house to show to my grandparents. My grandma and grandpa are in their late 80's and will never make the three hour trip to see it in person. While we give the walking tour, we plan to introduce the "guest room that will become the baby's room right around November 12." We get to catch my parents reaction on tape AND tell my grandparents "in person".
For my dh's folks, they have rented out a B&B in Virginia for a family weekend week after next. We have a photo album of pictures that we took during their 60th birthday party, which happened the last time we saw them, that we plan to give them. We're going to tuck an ultrasound photo inside.

We bought the Hubbys mom a picture frame that had "grandma" stuff written all over it. It took her a minute to get it. We're waiting to tell the great grandparents until after the first appt. next week. I think I'll send them a similar frame with the u/s pic in it if we get one.

We bought little onesies that said "I love Granmda" "I love Grandpa" We put my mom's in a red bag and dad's in a blue bag. When my mom opened it at first she thought I bought them matching underwear. GROSS! Then she saw the front and started crying.

We are doing something similar to Woodpecker.
On Mother's Day we have reservation at a nice restaurant. We will take my mother, dh's mother, my sister's dh's mother and all the kids (total of 20). Dh and I will pass out a card to my mother and his mother that say "Happy Mother's Day Grandma" and we will insert a u/s with a note from the baby. It should be really nice!

My DH knows my body like the back of his hand so I wasn't able to surprise him. We had a hard time staying pregnant. But after 10 weeks, I brought Krispy Kreme doughnuts to my staff meeting. After everyone had a mouthful I said, I just wanted all of your hips to spread and stomach to grow like mine..... Everyone was so excited (they knew how difficult things had been for me). Although a couple needed another hint of what I was talking about...

The day before our first anniversary – also the day we confirmed our pregnancy – I was stopped in the Dollar Tree store for fun...
I don’t usually buy any consumables there but was inclined to walk down one of the food isles and discovered the item we are going to use to announce our first child!
Imagine the clerks surprise when I piled the whole shelf of items in my cart: JUNIOR HONEY BEAR – miniature bear shaped, plastic, squeeze top honey containers
Very appropriate since we call each other "honey". We will tie the appropriate colour ribbon around the necks (hoping will be blue) and since it has a small flat panel on it's belly and back (where the labels are) there is just enough room for a custom label to share the due date &/or name etc.

I wasn't too creative... I can't keep my own secrets nearly as well as the secrets of others. My husband had fun with it though. When calling his side of the family, he asked each person what they were doing for Thanksgiving... mind you this was yesterday :)... as you can imagine none of them had even thought about Thanksgiving. He then mentioned that we knew what we would be doing... and something about planning to be in a delivery room. Everyone got a real kick out of it. :)
A girlfriend of mine recently sent out cards to close friends and family (we got one, that's how I know) with a family picture on the front. I opened the card and saw ultrasound photo printed on the inside with the words "a picture's worth a 1000 words, eh?" typed below it. I thought that was very clever!

The only 'clue' I can come up with right now is something like "what type of bun bakes in an oven but can't be eaten?"
If I think up anything else, I'll post again.

Well, for this one (#3), we are having a birthday party for me next weekend and we are having asian food. Well, I did some searching on the internet and found where I can order fortune cookies. I was able to write what I wanted on the insert. I put "Taking all bets! Will it be a boy or girl this time? Find out on 11/24/06". I thought that would be a clever way of letting everyone know at once. Now, if I can just keep my mouth shut from telling my mom. LOL.
God Bless,

THOSE LITTLE TRINKETS, THE BABY BOTTLE, AND BOOTIES AND THINGS LIKE THAT CAN BE FOUND IN CRAFT SHOPS AND EVEN WALMART IN THE CRAFT SECTION. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO ME. WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS PREG WITH MY SECOND ON HALLOWEEN, I WAITED A DAY AND THEN I WRAPPED THE POSITIVE TEST IN CHRISTMAS PAPER AND GAVE IT TO MY HUSBAND AS AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT.

Just call me Cindy Brady (from Brady Bunch), I can't keep my mouth shut. Everyone I know knows of all the troubles I've had so they are all understanding. I slip and say things by accident. Oops.

You know those little bitty trinkets you can get, IE miniature baby bottles, cupie dolls etc.? You might try putting those in the eggs, you can even do magazine clippings. diapers, formula, cute babies, cribs, car seats and see if they figure it out.

We have a five year old daughter,Erin, and we told her first. Then we called my mom and had Erin tell her that she is going to be a big sister. We also did that with my DH's parents. After that the news just spread like wildfire.

First creative thought....tell family and friends that you and your love have decided to become Bakers for a living...LOL I actually think I am going to tell my mom that I have a really special birthday present for her, but that she has to come out and celebrate her birthday with me. (she will be 60, and this is my second child)

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has come up with a cute/creative way to "let the cat out of the bag". We haven't told our family yet, and plan on waiting until Easter. I think that I am going to hind "clues" in eggs....I also have a card that says "Grandma and Grandpa, know what the Easter Bunny brought you?"......I put yellow baby booites inside. I will give them the card after my girls find the eggs. See how long it takes everyone. I need some help with the clues.....I want them to be kind of hard(this is not for the kids to guess, but the adults)....my mother-in-law, always thinks she knows something, before anyone tells her. Thanks ladies!
