I have the same dilemma, delivering at Hackensack or at Valley. I will need to see both hospitals. I have two different OB appt set up and at the same time I will visit the hospitals. The virtual tour on hackensack web site doesn't seem to the hospital justice.

I delivered my son at Hackensack..had a great experience. Some advice (or tips)...when you deliver or are in delivery..have dad go to the nurses station and ask to put your name on the list for a private room for Post Partum. We did that and ended up in a private room which was so much nicer..especially since we had a TON of visitors. THey are usually more lenient with the number of visitors in the private room than the shared rooms. Post Partum rooms are separate from the delivery wing.
Pictures of the baby are taken in the room and they did a GREAT job..I loved the pics we got.
My only negative experience was with the lactation consultant. I breastfeed and while I was there things got so confusing due to my c-section and baby's jaundice that the LC never came back to my room and I really needed it. Just follow up with them coming if your plan is to breastfeed.
Otherwise..good luck! I really did love my experience..and had a great doctor and staff.

The new maternity building at Hackensack is open. What's really cool is that every room is private and it has room for DH to remain with you. Each room has a day bed for DH. A friend delivered there and felt it was great!! The new building is beautiful. The other cool thing is that they have a lounge for grandparents to wait while you are in labor and the nursery overlooks the lounge. So when you give birth they will bring the baby to the nursery window. I have another friend who is delivering soon at Valley and was happy with that as well. I haven't been to Valley, I just know that she is happy.

Hope it helps!

Thanks so much for the input! It's definitely nice to hear that your niece was happy with her experience.

I did not deliver there, but my neice just had a baby there on march 10 and she said it was a nice hosp and staff...I visited her and the hospital seemed nice to me..she said they have just added a new maternity wing, but is was not ready yet when she delivered. Her doctor told her it might have been ready by march, but it wasn't..so I suppose it would be ready when you are to deliver...her dr. said it was to be brand new and beautiful...the rooms are to look more like a home enviroment rather than a hosp one....I hope this helps and best of luck to you and your little bundle!

I need to choose between Valley Hospital (Ridgewood ) and Hackensack. Hackensack is closer so I would prefer to deliver there but I don't know much about it. Has anyone toured or had their baby there?

Thanks - definitely appreciate the input.
